About Us

We’re high school and middle school students who are siblings of individuals with disabilities- often called “glass children.” At Support Our Siblings (SOS), we create a compassionate, inclusive space where these siblings are truly seen, supported, and connected.

But SOS is more than a support group. We also believe that glass children have a unique and powerful role to play in the disability rights movement. Because we live it- at home, in school, and in our communities- we advocate with insight, empathy, and urgency for our siblings and for broader change.

Through community, emotional support, and advocacy, we shine a light on the challenges and strengths of being a sibling of someone with a disability- and turn that experience into connection, leadership, and action.

Our Founder

SOS began with Harli Glatt, a ‘glass sibling’ who wanted to make a difference

From a young age, Harli volunteered with children with special needs through a variety of programs. Over time, she noticed something important: while there were many resources for individuals with disabilities and their parents, there was little to no support for the siblings who quietly navigate their own unique challenges.

Harli began searching for a place where kids like her could share their experiences and connect… but nothing existed. Determined to change that, she created SOS: a community built for glass siblings, by a glass sibling. Here, siblings can come together to connect, empower, and advocate.

OUR PARENTS MADE US SIBLINGS,

BUT WE CHOOSE TO BE BEST FRIENDS.

Our Mission

Glass Children

Glass children are siblings of individuals with disabilities.

Glass siblings may feel overlooked or invisible as our parents must focus on the child with the special need. We are often called "glass children" because adults may "see through us" to focus on the sibling with the disability.
